Katelyn Walker was sad in her room grounded feeling bad, like she was the worst person in the world. Katelyn was grounded because she yelled at her mom that she wanted a pet but Katelyn got the same answer every single time “Katelyn honey I love you but you know how I feel about animals in the house!” Kate’s mother hated animals.this time Kate fought back and got grounded for the rest of the night. Katelyn thought about being a robber or a murder or both! Katelyn was only ten so that was not a big deal, anyway Kate wanted to be a programmer for a famous website when she grew up Kate felt a little bad because her mother wanted her to be a doctor or a dentist when she grew up Kate got her computer taken away for two more days too so the punishment was really making her feel bad Kate has written six games and is working on her seventh so that was not a good punishment at all why couldn't it be TV or candy or something?

Katelyn had to share her room with her fourteen year-old older brother Lesly. Kate heard yelling downstairs “Mom be reasonable please, don’t make me-” Lesly seemed nervous “no buts young man go to your room and study until your done with your homework!”her mom yelled strictly. Lesly stomped in “ugh why couldn't you just do your homework! now I am stuck with you until you write a 10 page report on Albert Einstien!” Katelyn thought a little and remembered it was Friday, every Friday  Lesly would bring back the Phoenix daily paper “did you bring home the news paper Lesly?” Katelyn was trembling with hope it has not been a year-and-a-half since he has not brought the paper home so Kate just closed her eyes and crossed her fingers” “oh no sorry Kate but there was some huge news story I tried to get the news boy to get a reprint bit he just grunted and said that if you wanted the paper you should have come earlier so I checked the news stand in front of the oak pine hotel they were sold out too, eventually I visited all the news stands in town and they were all sold out so than the closest news stand was in a whole nother town! sorry Kate.” Kate cried. her long curly brown hair in her eyes she couldn't think of anything

that could make this day worse. “mom?” Kate said silently Kate jumped to see her mom sitting right next to her ‘I’m really sorry’ she thought of saying but she knew she would get the same
answer “I’m sorry is not what I’m looking for” she said I’m sorry but got a different answer “you aren’t the one who should be sorry I am I over-reacted and I should be the one apologising honey you know, you are the best girl a mom could ever have.” Kate smiled. “Say it’s only three thirty why don’t you go over and meet Haily and Klein like you wanted, I will drive if you want.”


“KLEIN! KLEIN! WHERES HAILY?” Kate looked around to see Zeke a boy from school “Zeke what are you doing here?” “Haily invited me yesterday afternoon for a ‘secret meeting’ I just can’t seem to find either of the-” Kate interrupted “I heard a voice.” “a faint sound.” “Kate I don’t know what your- wait- I hear it too its Klein.” Sure enough Klein came rushing, scratched and panicking, “Are you okay Klein?” “no I found the Phoenix daily in the dump with a picture of Haily on the cover of coarse I had to read it so I hoped the fence and walked through and there was a pile of broken glass buried into it, so no, I’m not okay. But I did get the paper” “really what did it say?”
